The Tobin Video Transfer TVT-16 telecine models are designed for easily making improved quality video transfers from 16mm movie film. The telecine projector, camera module and complete optical system are built-in. No slaving over a hot computer for hours... just plug into almost any DVD or MiniDV video recorder and monitor, and transfer or broadcast in real time as if copying a tape or disc. No computer required, no extra computer programs to learn, no tricky field and imaging lens alignments by the operator needed, no darkened room.  In addition, there are both Silent and Sound speeds in one machine. We recommend the Avermedia CL311-M2 card in your PC for capturing files to your computer using the Tobin TVT-16.

Direct Imaging Picture Quality. A CCD sensor and our exclusive technology assures a sharp, steady image free of objectionable flicker. The speeds are crystal controlled to .005% accuracy, eliminating any flicker adjustment by the user. The exposure level can be set fully manually if desired for running density corrected film prints, or an automatic modes is provided.

Camera: Sentech Y/C S-Video Camera. Provides the preferred S-Video output through the 4-pin Mini-DIN jack, as well as the Composite “yellow jack.” This industrial grade camera has conservatively rated resolution of 480 TV lines, with 768 x 494 (NTSC) or 752 x 582 (PAL) pixel count. There is also a Composite (yellow jack) video output. All cameras have Manual and Peak Auto exposure control.

Two Speeds. Film that was photographed at either 18 or 24 FPS (frames per second) can be run at close to the original speed, without objectionable flicker. Speed change is with a simple switch and no menu changes, belt shifting or other adjustments are required. No more apologies for the speed being wrong!

Film Handling. “Autoload” automatic threading is featured on the Bell & Howell mechanism. Reel capacity is 2200 feet for up to one hour shows at 24 FPS.

Audio Reproduction. The TVT-16 models include standard optical (photographic) audio playback. Output is through a 1/4″(6.35mm) 2-conductor phone jack for B&H, unbalanced –10 dBv from a typical sound track. The exciter lamp is run at reduced voltage for long life (perhaps years) and can be switched off for running silent film.

Footage Counter. No customer arguments if you can write an exact figure on their bill! Select feet or meters when ordering.

Heavy Duty Construction. Linear voltage to logarithmic current conversion of the Exposure correction knob for smoother and more gradual manual light control. Welded steel case and heavy gauge aluminum panels. Motorized rewind. Actual weight of the TVT-16 is 29 pounds and shipping weight is about 37 pounds in a 25 x 17 x 25 inch double box.  Operating instructions manual can be previewed here.

Models for NTSC (USA type) or PAL (European) video:

Note: Running speeds for NTSC video standard are exactly 19.980 and 23.976 FPS, crystal controlled. Speeds for PAL video are 16-2/3 and 25 FPS. These are the same as obtained with an expensive studio-type film scanner. Each video field contains picture from just one film frame, except that digital noise reduction if selected will give a small amount of blending. All models are designed for use on 100 to 240 volts, 50 or 60 Hz AC current with no changes needed by the user.
